Description of the Organization/Institution

Ceit-IK4 is a non-profit research centre that was created by the University of Navarra in 1982. Our primary mission is to carry out applied industrial research projects under contract, working closely with our clients’ R&D departments. Ceit-IK4 promotes excellence in applied research by publishing non-confidential results, disseminating scientific and technical knowledge in a variety of venues, and training doctoral students within the framework of industrial research projects.

Ceit-IK4 seeks regular collaboration with companies in a range of sectors (railway, aeronautical, automotive, health, manufacturing, energy and environment) and strives to understand all aspects of our clients’ business in order to develop high value added solutions through applied investigation projects. In addition to offering innovative solutions to our clients, Ceit-IK4 trains young researchers who are preparing to join the labour market and add value to the production system.

Areas of Application

Ceit-IK4 is composed of four divisions:

  • The Materials and Manufacturing Division offers solutions to transform industry challenges into value. The assets of the Division rely on an integrated structure based on the Industry 4.0 holistic approach.
  • The Transport and Energy Division is focused on four main areas; railway transportation (including railway dynamics, signalling systems, efficient driving assistance system and infrastructure maintenance), aircraft transportation (including on-board devices for structural prognostic health monitoring and electrical component) and road transportation (electrical vehicle components and intelligent transportation system) and smart grid and energy sensing components.
  • Water&Health Division at CEIT-IK4 is funded in two main pillars. The first one relies on the development of urban and industrial water control and monitoring systems. The second one provides the health sector with the approach on the design, fabrication and testing of biomedical devices and biosensors for biophysical parameter monitoring and medical diagnosis support.
  • ICT division focuses its research in the design of monitoring devices and communications systems. The ICT division has gained a broad experience in applied research being able to develop advanced sensors, antennas, integrated analogue electronics up to mmWave and digital integrated circuits.
